The EDT is probably closer to the traditional no 5, that is, it's not sweetish, but it's more floral. The edp is also closer to the original, but it feels a bit heftier and woodier than the edt. As a collector of vintage No:5 I would have to say the 'Extrait' of course, each & every bottle in my collection smells slightly different, not a huge fan of the edt (vint & mod) although great for layering & eking out the precious parfum.
19 EDT a few years ago was pretty nice, IMO, and the *freshness* made up for other formula changes. It was CRISP - a great feeling in a fragrance! The parfum is nice, but not as easy a wear as the EDT, as it's lacking the freshness that I think is a big draw for me. No. 19 is a lot more popular with men outside of France than No. 5.
